Emily in Paris: Controversial Series, Undeniable Fashion

Updated: Nov 17, 2020

The series caused a backlash from France from the stereotypical portrayal of French culture. However, this has also been interpreted as a purposeful choice, as part of the character's clichée and singular perspective of moving to Paris. Despite the debates, we simply cannot deny that the quirky outfits Lily Collins styled are incréible!

1. Iconic Audrey Hepburn look

This was our all-time favourite outfit where Lily Collins wears a Hubert de Givenchy black dress with a bold red lipstick, on the steps of Palais Garnier. This was a beautiful and classy ensemble as she ditches her date and embraces being an independent woman to go to the ballet.

2. Pink in Paris

A mix of vintage and high street fashion in matching Fuschia captures your attention as the character Emily, stands out from the crowd. It's no surprise people are feeling inspired to inject colour into their wardrobe rather than the standard black and white daily outfits.

3. Bad Beach Style

Although technically this outfit isn't from the series itself, Lily looks stunning in Saint Laurent as she promotes the show. The classic necktie exuberates French couture with the chic leather trousers spicing up any outfit. Delicate yet badass, we love it.

4. Effortlessly Captivating in Yellow and Black

In this episode, Emily exudes chic wearing Ganni matching top and skirt tied together with the studded black belt. Using a belt on a loose dress is an old trick but works perfectly to add shape and the black contrasts the sunny yellow tones flawlessly. Can the designer Patricia come style our clothes every day too, please?!

5. Classic Checkered

We think everybody needs a bit of checkered in their wardrobe and this is no exception. This outfit accentuates the cliché paired with a red beret but we think Lily pulls it off, what do you think? The matching set from Veronica Beard will have similar choices available in high street stores and we think it's charming, just like the character.

What does this Parisian inspired fashion tell us more than anything? Be bold, be brave and be beautiful.

Love, BBB x
